HEALING FROM TRAUMA
Dr. Susan Heffner Rhema has a PhD from Kent School of Social Work, University of Louisville, where she is an adjunct professor. Dr. Rhema has an MSW from the University of Maryland, School of Social Work and is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, (LCSW), in Arizona and Kentucky.
Dr. Rhema has lived in Kenya, Peru and Mexico; and has traveled to over 25 countries in Europe, Central and South America, the Middle East, Central Asia, and East Asia, working with international agencies, evaluating programs and personnel.
In her private practice Dr. Rhema specialties in the treatment of severe trauma, cross cultural psychological assessment and cross cultural competency training. She provides holistic therapeutic services for survivors of trauma including individuals, groups, adults and children. Dr. Rhema practices a variety of alternative and expressive treatment modalities and is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, (EMDR), Cognitive-Behavioral and Expressive therapies.
Dr. Rhema’s recent presentations include: Trauma Informed Suicide Assessment for Refugees: The North American Society for Refugee Providers; Challenges in Refugee Mental Health: Cuban Haitian Entrant Program Conference in Miami Florida; and Treating Refugee Trauma, Church World Service meeting in Albuquerque New Mexico.
